The Gates Of HeavenLithograph, 11" x 14" Inspired by the words of an 8th century Jewish scholar, "The Gates Of Heaven" reveal a vision of Jerusalem for the next millennium. Its architecture is at once familiar and mythical. The central image of the reinvented Temple complex is set within a landscape guarded by four legendary animals and a dove, who symbolize the heroic beginnings, mundane wisdom, and the mystical prophecies through which the major religions will at last discover common ground. Who prays in Jerusalem is as one praying before the
Throne of Glory, for the Gate of Heaven is there. Text & Illustrations ©1998 Ilene Winn-Lederer |
